- Forbes released its List of billionaires in the world on Tuesday.
- President Donald Trump came in at 715 on the list, 51 points above the 2018 list.
- Trump had dropped more than 200 vacancies between appearances on the 2017 list and the 2018 list.
- Trump’s estimated net worth has not changed by $ 3.1 billion.
President Donald Trump jumped 51 positions in his latest edition of the Forbes annual The list of billionaires in the world, despite the president’s net worth does not budge.
The Forbes 2019 list ranks Trump at 715, up from 766 on the 2018 list. According to the magazine, Trump’s net worth didn’t drop compared to last year – remaining at $ 3.1 billion – but a decline in the overall number and net worth of billionaires helped to push the president on the list.
The jump also comes a year later Trump dropped more than 200 vacancies between 2017 and 2018 due to a decline in the value of the president’s real estate portfolio and a drop in revenue on his golf club properties.
According to Forbes, Trump is the first billionaire to be president of U.S. history.
Jonathan Greenberg, author of the original Forbes 400 list, claimed in August that Trump gave Forbes false information in the first years of the list to increase the net worth of the then real estate tycoon. Greenberg said Trump came to use an alter ego in 1984, in an attempt to make the magazine further increase its value.
Decades later, at the time of Trump’s presidential announcement in 2015, the then candidate claimed to be worth about $ 9 billion – more than double the net worth of $ 4.1 billion that Forbes estimated at the time.
Michael Cohen, a former Trumps fixer and agent, also testified in Congress last week that the president tried to inflate his value to Forbes.
“It was my experience that Trump inflated his total assets when it served his purposes, like trying to be listed among the wealthiest people at Forbes, and emptied his assets to reduce his property taxes,” said Cohen in his prepared statement. .
Forbes reported that Cohen was among the Trump associates who met with magazine writers about the equity ranking in 2012 and the former Trump attorney called Forbes about the ranking again in 2015.
As for the 2019 list, Trump is well behind the richest man on the list – and a frequent target of the president’s ire – Jeff Bezos. Forbes estimated Amazon’s CEO to be worth $ 131 billion, roughly 42 times the president’s net worth.
