Google lens icon in photos gets new ‘G’ logo for brand clarity – ABOUT MAG 2020

The icon currently used for Google Lens in the company’s Photos app could soon be redesigned to showcase the search giant’s brand. This is based on recent reports citing the appearance of just one change in version 4.46 of the application. The change applies specifically to the Lens icon found when users click on one of their photos stored in the cloud or via the app.

More directly, this is the dashed square with a dot in the center and another in the bottom right. It can be found in the second slot, on the right side, at the bottom of the page, when clicking on a photo.

The new icon, shown below, is shown as a complete square made up of dashed lines. The dot in the lower right corner, representing the camera’s flash, is replaced by a complete corner line. Google also eliminated the point in the center. In its place, the search giant has put its own “G” mark.

This is Google’s second brand, but the first did not go so well

As of this writing, the newly renamed lens icon in Google Photos is only appearing in a single version. It is also appearing only to a few users. Therefore, it appears that it is being tested only and not widely distributed. It is also unclear whether the black and white coloring will remain or whether Google will add any color.

There is also no guarantee that the change will be widely publicized. That’s because this is really the second attempted brand change made by Google last week. The other change added the Google brand to the company’s Gboard keyboard.

While some brand elements are expected to be added to an app, Google’s decision and execution has been widely criticized. A plausible reason for this, in addition to the logo that adds extra unnecessary user interface, is that other related apps do not maintain the brand if the keyboard theme is changed.

For example, SwiftKey is another huge popular keyboard app. Your default theme shows your brand prominently. But when you change the theme, it disappears. The Google brand remains with the theme changes.

Regardless of the reason, Google’s first brand change did not last long. The added mark was removed briefly by means of a rollback.

It is not out of the question that the A / B test being performed here will end in a similar result. Users generally don’t like changes in the first place. In addition to adding unnecessary elements, these types of changes also have a usability problem. In that case, users may find it more difficult to locate the lens feature – especially if they have become accustomed to the old logo.

There are some similarities between the icons, but the new one is different enough to cause discord among users.

The test status of the Google Lens icon doesn’t mean that soon

If users react positively to the change, there is still a small chance that Google will not rename the Lens icon in Google Photos. The purpose of the test is generally to determine whether functionality problems will occur. This is not the case here, as it is simply a logo change and not a feature change. But the design has yet to be signed.

If the new logo reaches a final version of the Google Photos app, the company could end the launch, if it is launched, anyway. Consistency of features across applications is important and the Lens feature is not just found in Photos. It’s also featured in Google Assistant and elsewhere multiple applications.

In fact, several OEMs also include Lens as part of the main camera. For the sake of consistency, Google will likely try to apply the change to all of these locations at the same time.

All of these things are likely to prevent this from being released in the near future, if any.
