While you can find many alternative tools, the Calendar app includes all the essential features needed to organize and track all of your events. It is also compatible with most third-party calendar services. How to add an account to the Calendar

The Calendar app for Windows 10 allows you to bring and organize calendar events from various third-party services, including Outlook.com, Microsoft 365, Google, Yahoo and Apple iCloud.

To add a new account to manage your calendar events in Windows 10, follow these steps:

  1. Open Calendar.
  2. click on the settings (gear) in the lower left corner.
  3. click in Manage accounts at the top right corner.

  4. click on the Add Account button.

    Quick tip: If you already use the Mail app, your accounts will appear in this list.

  5. Select the service you use for calendar events. For example, Outlook.com, but you can choose from several services, including:

    • Outlook.com.
    • Microsoft 365 (Office 365).
    • Google (Gmail).
    • Yahoo.
    • iCloud.

  6. (Optional) Click the icon Advanced setting option to add other Internet mail services using POP or IMAP.
  7. Continue with the on-screen instructions to complete adding the account using your account credentials.

After completing these steps, the service events that you have set up should begin to synchronize on the device. You can add as many accounts as you need. If you have another personal or business account, repeat the same steps as described above.

Change the name of the calendar account

When setting up a new account, the Calendar application uses the service name as the account name. If you want to better identify the accounts, you can change the name to something more descriptive. For example, you can use something like “Work” or “Personal” or the email address.

To change the name of the calendar account, follow these steps:

  1. Open Calendar.
  2. click on the settings (gear) in the lower left corner.
  3. click in Manage accounts at the top right corner.

  4. Click on the account you want to add a different name to.
  5. Confirm the new name.

    Quick tip: If you made a mistake, you can also delete the account from the same page.

  6. click on the Save  button.

After completing the steps, the account will be easier to identify in the left navigation panel.

Customizing and sharing calendars in Calendar

After adding a new account, you have several options to customize and share each calendar.

To change a calendar’s color and visibility, use these steps:

  1. Open Calendar.
  2. In the desired account, right-click on the calendar and select a new color.

  3. (Optional) Click the icon More colors option and create a new color.

  4. (Optional) Clear the check box if you do not want a calendar to appear in this application.

After completing these steps, the events on the calendar will appear using the color scheme you selected.

Share calendar

To share a calendar with others, follow these steps:

  1. Open Calendar.
  2. In the desired account, right-click on the calendar and select the Share calendar option.

  3. Confirm the email address of the person you want to share the calendar with and press Log in.
  4. Use the drop-down menu to decide whether the person will have Eyesight or To edit permissions.

  5. click on the To share button.

After completing the steps, the people you’ve invited will have access to calendar events.

If you want to stop sharing a calendar, just click on the garbage next to the calendar you are currently sharing on the “Share this calendar” page.

Change calendar views

The Calendar app is set to display the current month of events, but depending on your lifestyle and work schedule, you have different views that can be accessed using the toolbar at the top of the app.

For example, you can change the views to show a single day, week, month or year. If you hover your mouse over the Day and Week options, you’ll notice a drop-down menu to use the multi-day display or switch to display only your work week.

Although you probably don’t use the Year option is often a good option that you can use to quickly jump to a specific day or month.

In addition, on the upper left, you will find a search box that can be used to find events in your calendars, and the arrow buttons are useful for browsing days, weeks, months or years, depending on the current view.

Finally, if you get lost in the app, click on the icon Today to go straight to the current day.

How to add calendar events to the Calendar

There are at least two ways to add new events to a calendar. You can do this in the app or using the date and time drop-down menu available on the taskbar.

Create a detailed event using the application

To create a new calendar event in the application, follow these steps:

  1. Open Calendar.
  2. click on the New event button in the upper left corner.

    Quick tip: Within the application, you can also use the Ctrl + N keyboard shortcut to create a new event.

  3. In the “Details” section, specify a descriptive title for the event.

  4. (Optional) Click the drop-down menu on the left and select a related icon to make it even easier to find the event.
  5. (Optional) Use the Calendar from the drop-down menu and select the account to which you want to save the event.
  6. Specify the physical location where the event will take place.
  7. Use the Begin option to specify a start date.
  8. Use the drop-down menu on the left to select a start time.
  9. Use the End option to specify the end date.
  10. Use the drop-down menu on the left to choose an end time.
  11. (Optional) Check the All day option if the event uses the whole day.
  12. In the bottom section, add all the details about the event.
  13. (Optional) Use the Display as drop-down menu to select a visual suggestion, including:

    • Free.
    • Working elsewhere.
    • Attempt.
    • Occupied.
    • Out of office.

  14. Use the Reminder drop-down menu to select how long before you should receive an alert about the event. (You can use none to disable the option or select any time between 0 0 minutes to 1 week before the event.)
  15. click on the Save  button in the upper left corner.

After completing the steps, the event will be saved to the account you specified.

You can use the steps below to schedule a repeating or group event using the Calendar application.

Create a repeating event using the app

To create a calendar repeat event, use these steps:

  1. Open Calendar.
  2. click on the New event button in the upper left corner.
  3. click on the Repeat button in the upper right corner.
  4. In the “Repeat” section, use the Begin option to specify the start date of the event.

  5. Use the date drop-down menu to select how often to repeat the event, including:

    • Daily.
    • Weekly.
    • A month.
    • Yearly.
  6. If you select the Weekly As an option, you will also need to specify how many weeks the event should repeat and on what day of the week.

    Quick tip: We are using “Weekly” as an example, but if you select another option, the settings will be different.

  7. Use the End option to specify the date on which the event should stop repeating.
  8. In the “Details” section, specify a descriptive title for the event.
  9. (Optional) Use the Calendar drop-down menu and select the account you want to save the event to.
  10. Specify the physical location where the event will take place.
  11. Use the time drop-down menus to select the event’s start and end times.

  12. In the bottom section, add all the details about the event.
  13. Use the Reminder drop-down menu to select how long before you should receive an alert about the event.
  14. click on the Save  button in the upper left corner.

After completing these steps, the event will continue to repeat, depending on the specified schedule.

Create a group event using the application

If you need to schedule a meeting or organize an event, you can set up a calendar event and invite people, regardless of the email addresses they have.

To set up a group calendar event, use these steps:

  1. Open Calendar.
  2. click on the New event button in the upper left corner.
  3. In the “People” section, confirm the email address of the person you want to invite to the calendar event and press Log in.

  4. Repeat step No. 3 to add more people to the event.
  5. In the “Details” section, specify a descriptive title for the event.
  6. (Optional) Use the Calendar drop-down menu and select the account you want to save the event to.
  7. Specify the physical location where the event will take place.
  8. Specify the start and end dates for the calendar event.
  9. Specify the start and end times of the event.
  10. In the bottom section, add all the details about the event.

  11. Use the Reminder drop-down menu to select how long before you should receive an alert about the event.
  12. click on the Send button.

After completing these steps, the event will appear on your calendar, as well as on the people to whom you sent the invitation. In addition, they will also receive an email notification, which they can confirm or decline.

Create a quick event using the app

If you need to create a calendar event with minimal information, you don’t need to follow many steps. To create a calendar event quickly, follow these steps:

  1. Open Calendar.
  2. Click on a date on the calendar to display the event creator pop-up.
  3. Specify a descriptive title for the event.
  4. Clean the All day option.

  5. Select a start and end time
  6. (Optional) Specify the physical location where the event will take place.
  7. Use the “Remember me” drop-down menu to select how long to receive an alert about the event.
  8. click on the Save  button.

After completing the steps, the new event will appear on the calendar you specified. You can always select the day and clicking on the event will open a page to edit, cancel or delete the event.

Create an event using the taskbar

To create a calendar or reminder event on the taskbar, follow these steps:

  1. click on the hour and date button on the taskbar.
  2. Select the date to schedule the new event on the calendar.
  3. click on the Show calendar option in the lower right corner.

  4. In the “Today” section, start typing the event or reminder in the text box.
  5. Click the drop-down menu on the right to select the calendar to save the new event.
  6. Specify the start and end time of the event.

  7. Specify the location (if applicable).
  8. (Optional) Click the icon More details to open the event using the Calendar application, which allows you to access more options and continue composing the event on a larger screen.
  9. click on the Save  button.

After completing the steps, the event or reminder will be added to your calendar. If you want to check upcoming events or reminders for a specific day, you can do so by selecting the day of the schedule from the time and date flyout or using the Calendar application.

Adding popular calendars to Calendar

The app also allows you to add several popular calendars to your work or personal calendar to ensure that your appointments do not conflict with certain holidays, sports games or TV shows, which you can also use as reminders.

To add popular calendars to the Calendar app, follow these steps:

  1. Open Calendar.
  2. click on the Add calendars button in the bottom left corner.

  3. Select the category of the calendar. For example, Holiday Calendars, Popular, sportsor TV.
  4. If you selected the Holiday Calendars category, you need to select your region’s calendar to add it.

  5. If you selected the TV category, choose the time zone, the channel and show that you want to add to the calendar.
  6. If you selected the sports category, choose the sport, tournament and team schedule you want to add to the calendar.

After completing these steps, the events should be completed on your calendar.

Syncing events in the Calendar

If you added a new event from your account using the web version of the service or on another computer and it does not appear on your calendar, you may need to sync the settings manually.

To synchronize events with the Calendar application, follow these steps:

  1. Open Calendar.
  2. Click the menu button (three dots) in the upper right corner.
  3. click on the Synchronize option.

After completing the steps, events must be synchronized to and from the cloud and synchronized between devices.

Customizing your Google Calendar experience

If you work from home or spend a lot of time setting up reminders and scheduling events, the same look can get bored quickly. However, you can customize the Calendar application to make it more personal by changing the color scheme, using a dark mode and even selecting a custom background image.

To customize the Calendar application, follow these steps:

  1. Open Calendar.
  2. click on the settings (gear) on the lower left side.
  3. click in Customization.

  4. In the “Colors” section, select the color scheme you want to use.
  5. Select from Light or Dingy or select the Use my Windows mode option.

  6. In the “Background” section, select a background for the application.

  7. (Optional) Click the icon Squeaky toy button.
  8. Select a custom image.
  9. click on the Open button.

After completing the steps, the Calendar app should be a little nicer to use.

Changing settings in the calendar

In the Calendar app, you can also customize various parameters to adjust the experience. For example, you can define which day should be the first day of the week, which days of the week you work, hours of work, and more.

To customize your calendar settings, follow these steps:

  1. Open Calendar.
  2. click on the settings (gear) on the lower left side.
  3. click in Calendar settings.

  4. In the “Week” section, use the drop-down menu to select your first day of the week.

  5. (Optional) Use the Days in the work week option to select the days of your work week.
  6. In the “Working hours” section, specify the start and end of your working hours.

  7. (Optional) In the “Week numbers” section, select how you want to show week numbers on the calendar, including:

    • Out.
    • First day of the year.
    • First full week.
    • First week of four days.

    Quick note: When you activate this option, the week numbers appear on the left side.

  8. (Optional) In the “Alternative calendars” section, check the Enable option.
  9. Select the alternate calendar, including:

    • English.
    • Japanese.
    • Chinese.
    • Arabic.
    • Persian.
    • Thai.
    • Korean.
    • Hebrew.
    • Hindi.
  10. Select the type of calendar. For example, for English, options include:

    • Gregorian.
    • Hijri
    • Umm al-Qura.
    • Hebrew lunar.
    • It was Saka.

After completing the steps, the Calendar application will be customized to suit your preferences.

How to change the weather settings in the Calendar

The Calendar application also shows the weather forecast on calendars to facilitate event planning. If you feel more comfortable using a different scale unit for temperature, the app allows you to change the weather settings to use Celsius or Fahrenheit.

To change the weather settings in the Calendar, follow these steps:

  1. Open Calendar.
  2. click on the settings (gear) on the lower left side.
  3. click in Time settings.

  4. Use the “Temperature scale” drop-down menu and select between Celsius or Fahrenheit.

After completing the steps, the weather will appear with the temperature scale you specified.
