WhatsApp finally introduced stickers on its platform just last month, and offered several sticker packs previously available on Facebook Messenger. But if you’re on Android, you can easily create your own stickers on your phone.
This is thanks to Sticker Studio, a free application created by Sven van der Zee, former TNW Index development intern. You can take photos or import images and simply draw an outline around the part you want to turn into a sticker.
However, there are some strange restrictions: you need to create at least three stickers in order to export a package of them to WhatsApp. You are limited to 10 sticker packs, with a maximum of 30 stickers per pack.
Still, it is a lot of fun for people who have colorful people in their lives. I’m in a bunch of group chats and I found the app useful for cropping a meme-worthy image of myself gritting my teeth in terror as I went down a steep slide in a salt mine (I’m not good at height).
That’s all you can do now; Sticker Studio can use a little more polishing and currently does not allow you to resize images or add effects – but these features are in progress. And hey, it’s a lot easier than cropping images on the desktop and building an app just to share stickers.
Try the free app from Google Play.
