People can be made homeless for a variety of reasons and the effects of homelessness can be devastating.
It was the case of a man identified only as Edu, who has lived on the street for three years, but is now determined to start his life over.
Edu’s story was highlighted in a series of tweets by a Twitter user identified as @kalasinga, who was impressed by his enthusiasm for high-performance cars.
Kalasinga said he saw the man several times on the street while driving to the office, but never paid attention to him until one day he commented on his car.
“How we started talking. Edu is usually based on Muthithi Road Westlands. I used to ignore him all the time last year (not very well, I admit),” said Kalasinga.
“He caught my eye when he saw my car one day and shouted ‘Nice man Evo!’. So we started talking earlier this year,” he added.
In the video series, Edu showed his vast knowledge about the performance of different cars, from engine power to how to customize them for even better performance.
Edu, who is half Kenyan and half Sudanese, said he was forced to flee the war in Sudan and settle in Kenya, where he became a car dealer before ending up on the streets.
The middle-aged man said he would love to be a salesman who deals specifically with special sports and fast cars and eventually open his own car tuning shop.
Edu, who has just finished his rehabilitation program, said he is now on methadone treatment and ready to start working as soon as he is finished.
“He seems to me to be a well-mannered man. I’m sure he can be helped,” said Kalasinga.
“I think he just needs an opportunity to change his life,” he added, noting that each time they talked, Edu proved to be well mannered in a variety of subjects.
Internet users were surprised by Edu’s brilliance with some noting that he would easily sell a car with his convincing power.
“This guy is an asset, well informed on the subject of cars. Whoever deals with cars, even in the showroom, you will sell for sure ”.
“He looks like a very perceptive guy, with a pleasant personality and knowledgeable about his line of work. I pray that he gets the opportunities he wants soon.”
Anyone who wants to contact Edu directly, he is found on Mpesi Lane, near Muthithi Road, most days.
