LOCK HAVEN – First and continuous unemployment claims continued a downward trend in Clinton County, according to information released Thursday by the state Department of Labor and Industry.
In the week ending October 17, Clinton County residents filed 35 initial claims for unemployment insurance, compared with 52 the week before. Of the 35, 46% were from the construction area and 63% were male.

Of the 784 continuing claims, 19% were in the food and accommodation sector and 58% were women.
The state expects to release September’s monthly unemployment rates next week for all 67 counties. Clinton County had an unemployment rate of 8.8% in August.
