In an exclusive interview with Mike Kelly of NorthJersey.com, New Jersey’s attorney general, Gurbir Grewal, presents his plans for police reform at Garden State.
The attorney general’s office is investigating a fatal accident in Clifton involving a police car, officials said.
On Thursday night, at about 7 pm, a Clifton police officer was responding to a radio call about a crime when he hit and killed a woman at the intersection of Allwood and Brookwood Roads, according to a press release from the attorney general. New Jersey general, Gurbir Grewal.
The policeman had emergency lights on at the time. The woman received medical treatment on the spot and was taken to St. Joseph University Medical Center in Paterson, where she was pronounced dead at 7:42 pm, said Grewal.
Neither the woman nor the official’s names were released at this time. The investigation is being conducted by the Attorney General’s Office because it is required in investigations into the death of a person that occurs during a meeting with a police officer acting in the official capacity of the police officer or while the deceased is in custody.
