Michigan Lawyers Weekly named Varnum corporate lawyer Seth Ashby as Go To Business Lawyer.

The new program is designed to recognize lawyers appointed by their peers because they have knowledge of the case laws, statutes, regulations in their field of practice and have received recommendations from clients.

Ashby has led the company’s mergers and acquisitions team since 2013, resulting in approximately 500 acquisitions, including several transactions between $ 100 million and $ 400 million and two liquidity events that involved multi-billion dollar valuations.

One of the acquisitions that Ashby represented was from a publicly traded Chinese company that acquired a southeastern Michigan designer and manufacturer of material handling and transportation systems. This was the customer’s first acquisition in North America.

Another acquisition that Ashby represented was a contracted family manufacturer of medical devices that sold the controlling stake to a financial buyer.

Both acquisitions involved an opposite lawyer from a global law firm.

Ashby also serves on several community boards and was named leader of Varnum’s corporate practice team in 2019.
