A gas explosion at a natural gas plant in the community of Rumuodomaya, a local government area of Obio-Akpor, a suburb of Port Harcourt in Rivers State, caused panic among residents of the area.
According to reports, the explosion occurred around 8:45 pm on Saturday, when plant operators were unloading gas from the truck.
The reverberation of the explosion shook the foundations of the buildings in the neighborhood, with some fleeing their homes in fear.
Some of the night shift workers reportedly suffered severe burns.
The president of the local government area of Obio-Akpor, Solomon Eke, mobilized security agencies and firefighters to the site and isolated the road from the Airport Axis, according to the latest report.
This explosion is happening less than 24 hours after the Osadebe Gas Plant Explosion at Agbor’s headquarters in the local government area of Ika South, in the Delta.
The South-South Zonal Coordinator of the National Emergency Management Agency in Rivers State, Walson Brandon, said on Sunday that the agency began to assess the level of damage to the plant and the safety of all employees.
