Former striker George Mason A.J. Wilson will transfer to South Carolina, he announced on social media on Wednesday.

Wilson is the second transfer that Frank Martin’s Gamecocks added this week, joining Murray’s former state guard Chico Carter Jr. in Columbia.

“God didn’t bring me here to just bring me here,” tweeted Wilson on Wednesday. “New home, same goal.”

The South Carolina basketball team has been changing in recent weeks, with four players entering their names on the transfer portal and three players entering the NBA draft process. All over the country, more than 1,200 Division I players have entered their names on the transfer portal, according to VerbalCommits.com.

Wilson, an experienced 1.80 meter and 90kg striker, could help mitigate the loss of striker Jalyn McCreary and rebound Justin Minaya, who entered their names on the transfer portal. Minaya declared for the NBA draft in addition to entering your name on the portal as a postgraduate transfer.

All-time leader of George Mason, with 212 career blocks, Wilson won the Atlantic 10 All-Defensive Team award this season. He averaged 6.8 points and 4.5 rebounds per game in 114 games with the Patriots.

More changes are likely to come for Gamecocks, who are revamping their roster for the 2021-22 season. After weeks of rumors, it seems that the university will not make a change at the top, with signs pointing to Martin, remaining head coach. It is not clear whether the USC will issue a public vote of confidence or announce a reworked extension or contract.

In recent weeks, guards Trae Hannibal and T.J. Each of Moss has entered the transfer portal. Keyshawn Bryant and Jermaine Couisnard entered the NBA draft process without agents, leaving room for a return to the USC.
