The Sri Lanka Public Service Commission (PUCSL) announced that electricity consumers will be paid interest on deposits made when they sign up for connections.

PUCSL President Janaka Ratnayake announced that an interest rate of 8.68% will be paid for 2021 starting today.

The benefit granted to the consumer under Section 28 of the Sri Lankan Electricity Act, which specifies that an electricity consumer must receive interest on the security deposit paid by their client or licensee.

According to Ratnayake, the delay in paying interest so far has been due to a number of issues, including the completion of the interest component to be paid.
