LITTLE ROCK – Junior striker Abayomi “Baybe” Iyiola, who was part of Eric Musselman’s first recruiting class in Arkansas, announced on Tuesday that he will join the transfer portal.
Iyiola (6-9, 230) was transferred from Stetson to Arkansas, missed the 2019-20 season as a sophomore redshirt, then suffered a knee injury in the preseason that kept him out for the longest time. part of his junior season at 20-21. After recovering and clinically cleared to resume full basketball activities, Iyiola trained with the team at the end of the season, but made only one appearance in a game in Arkansas, recording 1:35 of playing time and getting a rebound in a victory 101-73 on the South Carolina Highway on March 2.
Iyiola spent two seasons at Stetson under Hatters coach Corey Williams before following Williams to Arkansas when he was hired as an assistant coach. Williams left Arkansas after two seasons on Wednesday to accept a similar position as assistant coach at Texas Tech.
Due to the NCAA’s unique exceptions that grant an extra season of game eligibility due to the covid-19 pandemic, as well as immediate game eligibility for all Division 1 transfers, Iyiola will have two more years of eligibility to play and will be available to compete to start the next season ’21 -22.
Iyiola becomes the third Razorback to enter the transfer portal after the 20-2021 season, joining juniors Desi Sills and Ethan Henderson (committed to Texas A&M).
