Eng. Al Kuwari presented and discussed Msheireb Properties’ vision of delivering a smart and sustainable city from the beginning, making it a promising contemporary urban development that combines traditional architectural language with modernity and technology.
Speaking about how the MDD adopts the highest standards of sustainability, Al Kuwari stated: ‘Sustainability is fundamental to Msheireb Downtown Doha, both in the conservation of natural resources and in the quality of its design; This reiterates our commitment to the environment and the preservation of natural resources.
‘In Msheireb, more than 5,200 roof solar panels and hot water solar panels are used to generate electricity. 32% of energy is saved due to efficient construction design, improved building envelopes for walls and windows, built-in windows, energy recovery for outside air entering the building, optimized ventilation using carbon dioxide (CO2) detectors and a high efficiency district cooling plant. Efficient irrigation systems and native green species have been adapted to survive in dry conditions and reduce the landscape’s irrigation needs, he added.
Msheireb Downtown Doha is the world’s first fully built smart and sustainable center regeneration project. It reflects Msheireb Properties’ vision of reviving Msheireb’s old business district in a contemporary city with a new architectural language that is modern but inspired by Qatar’s traditional heritage and architecture. In addition, Msheireb Properties aims to change the way people think about urban life to improve their overall quality of life and achieve one of the pillars of Qatar’s 2030 National Vision.
Al Kuwari discussed the smart aspects of Msheireb Downtown Doha, saying: ‘Msheireb Downtown Doha is smart from the start. Its infrastructure, applications and systems are smart. The infrastructure is well prepared for the city to be smart, including telecommunications infrastructure, data centers, connections between buildings and city facilities.
‘Smart applications for monitoring and managing energy and GPS have been installed in the city and a data analysis application that counts the number of visitors at each event or activity, along with a 3D data analysis system that allows you to collect and analyze data, comparing them, and drawing conclusions. The services that end users can use are smart customer service, free WIFI throughout the city, smart and connected signage, guidance and more.
“We are offering a city that is changing the way of life, improving water and energy efficiency and meeting the requirements of current and future generations and companies,” he added.
