Baylor men’s basketball adds another transfer guard as Bears eye back-to-back titles – About Your Online Magazine

WACO, Texas – National champion Baylor is adding another transfer guard.

Coach Scott Drew said Tuesday night that Dale Bonner signed with Bears after leading Division II Fairmont State in scoring, watching and stealing in each of his last two seasons at the school in West Virginia.

The Bears last week added transfer guard James Akinjo, Arizona’s top scorer last season.

Baylor hopes to lose America’s junior guard Jared Butler for the NBA draft, along with other guards MaCio Teague and Davion Mitchell. They were Bears’ three top scorers last season.

1.80 meter, 75 pound Bonner will have three seasons of eligibility when he joins the Bears this summer.

“Dale is someone we target because he is a young man of high character with tremendous work ethic,” said Drew. “He has seen the success we have had in developing guards and wants to continue that tradition. We believe he fits perfectly into our program and we are excited to welcome him to the Baylor Family.”

After becoming a real freshman in 2018-19, Bonner started all 50 games in the past two seasons, averaging 17.8 points per game as a freshman and 21.2 points as a sophomore.
