Miner men’s basketball inks Blinn College transfer 6-foot-10 Bonke Maring – El Paso Herald Post – About Your Online Magazine


New UTEP men’s basketball coach Joe Golding announced his first recruit as Bonke Maring, a 2-meter transfer from Blinn College, who signed a letter of intent to play for the Miners on Tuesday afternoon.

“Bonke gives us a great internal presence and is immediately ready to play with his size, strength and waist. We feel that he is very complete and can play on both shoulders. He can play at the lowest rank; the high post and he can hit the ball, ”shared head coach Joe Golding.

“Offensively, he will give us immediate help in the upper and lower positions, which is very important and an integral part of our crime.”

Maring will have three years of eligibility to play due to the free year of COVID.

Maring played 21 games, called the second team of the All-Region XIV Conference, averaging 12.6 points per game, averaging 8.0 rebounds per game, shooting 62.9 percent of the field (110-175) and increase of 2 in 5 (40.0%) effort in 3’s. He hit 71.7 percent of the free-throw line (43-60) and totaled five doubles.

He opened the second season with 21 points (8-8 FG) and eight rebounds against Victoria College. Maring reached his career record with 16 boards and scored 17 points (7-8 FT) against Paris Junior College, scored 19 points (9-14 FG) and 10 rebounds at the end of the regular season against Panola College and scored 18 points (8-11 FG) with eight rebounds in victory against Dallas Christian College

Maring received second-team honors in all districts at Cy-Springs High School and played for the Houston Raptors team.
