The Uttarakhand Congress demanded that, in view of the blockade, the state government renounce electricity, water and house taxes to provide help to the people. The President of the Congressional Committee of Pradesh (PCC), Pritam Singh, said that Covid’s curfew has increased unemployment and a crisis has hit large numbers of families in the state. He was addressing a symbolic protest organized by the Congress party in Rajiv Bhawan here on Sunday. The president of the PCC said that the pandemic had hit the poor working class and linked to tourism. He said the tourism industry and associated works are closed due to the pandemic. Singh said affected businesspeople should be exempt from interest on loans for a year and taxes and commercial vehicle insurance should be waived for six months. In launching an attack on the Uttarakhand BJP government, the PCC president said the state was among the most affected in number of Covid cases and deaths from the disease. He said people are experiencing problems due to the slow rate of vaccination. “Vaccination vacancies are difficult to book; the vaccine stock is empty. The state must adopt a strong vaccination policy, ” he said.
