San Diego Gas and Electric (SDG&E) is working to correct a gas leak in National City on Thursday afternoon, leading to road closures in the area.
The gas leak was reported around 1:30 pm. in the 2400 block of Highland Ave. Currently, the gas leak poses no danger to the area, said the City’s National Police.
Police set up a voluntary shelter on site and a voluntary evacuation for people in the area.
Block 2400-2700 of Highland Ave. is closed to traffic and the public is advised to avoid the area and use alternate routes. The closure is expected to take several hours, the NCPD said.
The NCPD said it believed the gas leak could have been caused by the construction of a house.
