‘Highly Unlikely’ Rafa to join Everton
Sky Sports journalist Vinny O’Connor believes it is “highly unlikely” that Everton will sign Rafa Benitez as their next coach.
ECHO reported yesterday that Everton has yet to make any contact with Rafa Benitez, but his name has been discussed by club decision makers.
Farhad Moshiri and Everton’s board commented on the 61-year-old as they continued their search for Carlo Ancelotti’s replacement at Goodison Park.
But O’Connor told Sky:
“I can put Rafa Benitez, possibly being Everton’s next manager, in the ‘highly unlikely’ category.
“Why? Well, they’re not officially commenting at the moment, but the noises coming out of there should touch that link right away.
“What we do know is that Everton is going to go through an extensive process, they’re in the middle of an extensive process right now, they’re going to take a long time to make that decision.
“They desperately want to find the right man for the job. Obviously, they will look to a coach like Rafa Benitez with his credentials, mainly because of the big trophies he’s won, the success he’s had in his career.
“The downside, of course, is his links to Liverpool Football Club and whether he would be widely accepted by the Evertonians as their new manager.”
