Additional Card Details

Travelers who prefer to book with Marriott can enjoy valuable Bonvoy program benefits with this card. You will qualify for automatic Marriott Silver Elite status, which can be turned to Gold status by spending $35,000 or more each year of your account’s anniversary. Each calendar year you will receive 15 Elite Night credits. And with each account anniversary, you’ll receive a Free Night Award, valid for a one-night stay at a Marriott property worth up to 35,000 points per night.

The Marriott Bonvoy Unlimited Credit Card comes with some significant perks in addition to the Marriott Bonvoy program itself. You will receive travel protections on trips you book with the card, including baggage delay insurance, lost baggage refund and travel delay refund, as well as purchase protections. This card’s purchase protection benefit applies against damage or theft for purchases made with your credit card for up to 120 days, with a limit of $500 per claim and $50,000 per account.

Should You Get the Marriott Bonvoy Unlimited Credit Card?

The Marriott Bonvoy Unlimited Credit Card is an excellent choice for rewards enthusiasts who want to earn free stays under the Marriott brand.

The 100,000 points welcome bonus is sufficient to cover 20 nights at Category 1 properties (starting at 5,000 points per night) during peak dates, or shorter stays at higher level properties.

Even if you don’t travel often, this card’s annual Free Night Award with a maximum redemption of 35,000 points is more than enough to cover the $95 annual fee, as long as you stay at a Marriott property at least one once a year. For example, you can use your Free Night Award for one night at the AC Hotel Miami Wynwood in August during peak season for a value of 30,000 points. It is a Category 4 Marriott property, and the standard nightly rate during this period starts at $259.

This card also offers a boost to higher status levels within the Marriott Bonvoy program. To get started, you will receive automatic Silver Elite status. While Silver status itself doesn’t come with many perks outside of a 10% point bonus and late checkout, securing this level makes it easier to climb to higher levels of elite status with even more valuable perks and benefits. You also receive 15 Elite Night Credits for elite status each calendar year; this puts you more than halfway to achieving Gold Elite status, which requires 25 nights a year.

And depending on the size of your spending budget, you can achieve higher status even more easily. The Marriott Bonvoy Unlimited Credit Card gives you a path to automatic Gold Elite status when you spend $35,000 or more on your credit card in one year.

You can also compare the benefits of this card with the more premium Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant american express® Card. It costs a lot more than $495 a year, but if you’re a frequent traveler and are loyal to Marriott, the rewards you earn can outweigh the cost. On the other hand, if you don’t always stick with Marriott, or just want a more versatile travel credit card, consider a similarly priced general travel rewards option such as Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card.

How to Use the Marriott Bonvoy Unlimited Credit Card

When you sign up for the Marriott Bonvoy Boundless credit card, start working toward the 100,000 point bonus. You will have three months from opening the account to spend $3,000, which equates to about $1,000 a month.

If this is not within your normal spending range, you can wait and plan your card order around your next vacation reservation, especially if you plan to stay with Marriott. You can work towards the welcome bonus and earn another 17x points on your hotel reservation, which can go towards future travel. Just remember not to spend more than you can pay when your bill is due. You can save on vacation, but those savings can be quickly paid off by any high-interest debt you accumulate by carrying a balance on this card.

It’s also worth strategizing when it comes to redeeming your hotel stay rewards. O Marriott Rewards Table has different redemption rates for off-peak stays, standard dates and peak season dates. To make the most of your rewards, consider redeeming your points for stays outside peak travel times (they vary by destination). And don’t forget the Marriott’s 5th night free benefit – for every five consecutive nights you book using Bonvoy points at the same property, you’ll get one of those free nights.

You can also redeem Bonvoy points for flights and car rentals, transfer them to frequent flyer programs, redeem experiences through Marriott Bonvoy Moments, shop online and more, but you’ll get the best redemption value by adhering to redemptions from Marriott award nights.
