Twins’ Byron Buxton homers twice for St. Paul Saints, but rehab assignment likely to continue Friday – The Athletic – About Your Online Magazine

ST. PAUL, Minnesota — Your bat appears to be ready, but Byron Buxton and the twins want to give the outfielder time to make sure his body is in proper shape for the game.

Playing the field for the first time on Thursday night, Buxton hit two home runs, hit a 400-foot sacrifice fly and provided an assist in a rehab game for the Triple-A St. Paul Saints. Buxton bet 2 on 2 with five RBIs and seemed at ease as he wandered the outfield a little over a month after suffering a grade 2 strain on his right hip. It was Buxton’s second exit from the task, and it came two nights after he had tripled, chosen, and walked as the Saints’ designated hitter.

As encouraging as it all is, and overwhelmingly it is, Buxton and the twins intend to be smart about the central defender’s return to the majors.
