An oil tanker exploded on a KZN highway.
Seven people died and 30 were injured in a multiple vehicle accident in Hidcote, in the center of KwaZulu-Natal.
The accident left some of the vehicles, including a tanker, on fire.
KwaZulu-Natal Emergency Medical Services spokesman Robert Mckenzie confirmed that seven people died in the deadly accident.
“The firefighters managed to contain most of the fire. Most of the fire was extinguished. However, the tanker is still smoking, with some flames coming out of the burned truck carrying flammable liquid. died in this accident,” Mckenzie said.
Earlier, Netcare 911 spokesman Shawn Herbst reported that the fatal accident occurred around 3:42 pm on Monday.
“Reports indicate that a bus, a tanker and several cars were involved in a collision, which left four people in critical condition and other patients with minor to severe injuries.
“Fire and rescue services are currently on site trying to extinguish the fire to determine if any deaths have occurred,” Herbst said.
