ISLANDTON, SOUTH CAROLINA: The murders of Paul Murdaugh and his mother, Margaret aka Maggie, sent shock waves across South Carolina. The pair, who belonged to an important Lowcountry legal family, were found dead in the latter. Monday, June 7, at his hunting lodge in Islandton, South Carolina. The main target of the unidentified suspects was said to be the 22-year-old, while his mother, the wife of Alex Murdaugh, took a fatal shot because he was there by chance.

Alex is a lawyer and the successor to a powerful and wealthy legal dynasty. His full name is Richard Alexander Murdaugh Sr, who works part time district Attorney to the 14th Circuit attorney’s office. Alex was the one who first found the corpses of his son and wife. He is said to have told authorities that he went out to shoot, and when he returned he saw the bodies of Paul and Maggie some distance away from each other in the backyard of his sprawling property.

Reports say Paul, who was charged in the February 2019 death of Mallory Beach, 19, was shot in the head and upper body with a shotgun, while Maggie, 52, was targeted with what appeared to be a rifle of assault. We ask for your patience and continued prayers during this tragic time. Contact the authorities if you have any information that might be important. ”

Meanwhile, Mallory’s family also released a statement showing sympathy for the Murdaughs, despite suing them last year. The statement read: “The Beach Family extends its deepest and warmest condolences to the Murdaugh family during this terrible time. Having suffered the devastating loss of their own daughter, the family prays that the Murdaughs can find some level of peace with this tragic loss. They would like the family and community to know that their continued thoughts and prayers are with the Murdaughs. It is their sincerest hope that someone will step forward and cooperate with the authorities so that the perpetrator of these senseless crimes can be brought to justice.

On Friday, June 11, a funeral was held for Paul and Maggie in Hampton County, which was attended by hundreds. One family member, Elizabeth Murdaugh, described the mother and son duo “well lived and well loved.”
