Charges in Welland assault upgraded to second-degree murder – About Your Online Magazine


Two Welland men who were facing aggravated assault charges stemming from an incident in early May are now facing second-degree murder charges.

This results from the victim’s death in the May 5 incident from injuries on June 4, Niagara Regional Police said in a press release on Tuesday.

The victim was identified as Christopher McLaughlin, 54.

Charged by police are 32-year-old Larry Miles and 40-year-old Eric Fidler.

Miles was arrested in Cambridge, Ont. with the help of the Waterloo Police Service

On May 5, at approximately 11:54 pm, police responded to a report of a disturbance in Welland in the 260 King St. area between Albert and State Streets.

Police found a lone man in his 50s suffering from serious injuries. The man was treated and transported from the scene by paramedics to a local hospital in critical condition.

The initial investigation determined that the victim had been physically assaulted where he was found.
