After a car accident in April left DL Brett Johnson unable to play for the 2021 season, California fans pondered how in the hell we could make up for such a massive loss.
Cal Athletics and Brett himself provided an update on his rehab today—he’s “feeling great” so far and will be “back on the field as soon as possible”, though there is no official timeline yet.
That Brett is healing and rehabbing well is a huge win for the Bears as he will be critical member of our defensive line. Despite being forced into playing out of position at defensive tackle for the past two years, Johnson was a force in all 17 games with 13 starts and earned All-American and All-Pac-12 recognition. With Johnson likely to slide over to his natural position at defensive end whenever he returns, the sky is the limit for the once-long-haired havoc.
Looking forward to seeing you back on the field, Brett!
